Natural occurrences: the moments that make you stop and take in the extra breath, that place where the air is so satisfying you would give up anything to taste it again, those instances that inscribe themselves into your memory, and replay themselves like a broken record. These moments are home.

With a minimalist approach to a sensation, emotion, or reflection, my artwork is an attempt to portray that instance of breath and pause, invoking the memories almost forgotten. It is an autobiographical journey through the everlasting battle of placement.

Inspiration comes to me from the mountains of Colorado. I remember the smell of burning sage and sweet grass, mason jars filled with flavors and colors, feathers and dried flowers, herbal remedies and the harsh reality of life and death. My childhood and my adolescence nursed a perspective rooted in the moment, rather than swaying upon the assumptions of the future. Now, as I traverse through adulthood, I find myself on horseback searching for those moments that bring me home: the twisted log, the ashen bones, or the sun-ray dancing upon a stone.

An exploration of the inner being, my practice is the search for what we call home and the definition of such. It investigates the impermanence of an idea, and its everlasting echo. My artwork asks the question: “Where is my home?”
